History
A public appeal to raise money for a local hospice was launched by Lady Priscilla Bacon in 1977. The target of £250,000 was quickly reached and Priscilla Bacon Lodge was opened in 1979 in the grounds of the Colman Hospital. The Colman Hospital was originally donated to the people of Norwich by the Colman family and had been home to the Jenny Lind Hospital for Children for some time.
The unit has continued to receive high levels of support from the community in the form of legacies and donations and in 1987, following a further round of fundraising, a day unit (The Rowan Centre) was formally opened by the Duchess of Kent. The service has developed over this time and celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2004. This occasion was marked by various events including a service of celebration led by the Bishop of Norwich.
During 2005 the Norwich PCT and the PBL Support Group invested in excess of £300,000 to totally refurbish the inpatient area to include new flooring, better lighting and suspended ceilings, double glazing, piped oxygen to all beds, a central nursing station, a dedicated room for complementary therapy, patient lounge and coffee area upgrade and a full redecoration.
We continually assess our services and facilities to ensure that patients and their loved ones receive the very best possible care at all times.
