The National Council for Palliative Care - is the umbrella organisation for all those who are involved in providing, commissioning and using hospice and palliative care services in the UK.

Carers UK - aims to encourage carers to recognise their own needs, and to provide support. There is an information team for professionals as well as carers advice and information team. The organisation also brings carers' concerns to the attention of government.

The Befriending Network - is a charity which trains and supervices volunteers who visit the homes of those with a life-threatening illness. Its own volunteers are based in North and West London, the City of Oxford and rural Oxfordshire, but it can make referrals to similar befriending services Nationwide.

Help the Hospices - is the national charity in the UK for the hospice movement, offering advocacy, support, information, awards, advice and training.

The Gold Standards Framework - aims to improve the organisation and quality of care for patients in the last stages of life in the community, so that more live and die well in their preferred place of choice.

The Liverpool Care Pathway for the dying patient (LCP) - has been developed to transfer the excelence of hospice of care to other care settings.

Preferred Place of Care - The Cancer Network website has been developed to provide information for patients, carers and professionals about local cancer services and to provide links to other organisations for further high-quality cancer information. It does not provide clinical information on cancer.
