Day Services (The Rowan Day Centre Unit)
The Specialist Palliative Care Day Service offers planned treatment and care five days a week to promote independence and enhance quality of life through symptom control, rehabilitation and psychosocial support within a relaxed environment.
The professional multi-disciplinary team, based at The Rowan Centre Day Unit, is supported by a wide range of volunteers including drivers, hairdressers and complementary therapists. The Priscilla Bacon Lodge Support Group fund additional complementary therapy, including music therapy.
We provide clinical, psychological and social support to patients and their families whilst enabling them to remain living at home for as long as possible. The Day Unit supports this with:
- Holistic assessment and treatment of complex symptoms
- Complementary therapies e.g. massage, aromatherapy and reflexology. This can help promote feelings of wellbeing, reduce anxiety and help control symptoms
- Our new positive living programme covers various topics and helps patients and their family to develop strategies to manage life in a positive way
- Therapeutic activities including art therapy and music therapy, these help to increase self worth, maintain emotional independence and promote a sense of achievement and control.
- Intravenous therapies such as bisphosphonate infusions and blood transfusions as a day case thus preventing the need for admission to hospital
- Occupational therapy assessments/home visits to identify and plan interventions to help maximise independence/quality of life
- Carer/family support - including complimentary therapy
- Physiotherapy rehabilitation to maximise potential and independence
- Nursing assessment and care e.g. wound dressings, catheter care and bowel care etc
- Social Worker involvement to assist with financial and extra care needs
- Multidisciplinary home visits - if the patients' condition deteriorates / changes then appropriate care is assessed, planned and implemented
