Inpatient Unit (Priscilla Bacon Lodge)

An admission to the Specialist Palliative Care In-patient Unit (Priscilla Bacon Lodge) may be necessary at any point during the patient's care pathway for the assessment and relief of pain or other distressing symptoms that are not easily managed or treated in the home or other healthcare settings. Priscilla Bacon Lodge is a purpose-built facility which offers the most up-to-date specialist, care provision.

Our dynamic, enthusiastic multidisciplinary team is committed to the delivery of clinical excellence. The team comprises staff from various disciplines with a wide range of expertise and experience. We work to meet the needs of the patient and those close to them by providing effective, supportive and therapeutic specialist palliative treatments.

On-site facilities include:

• A newly refurbished in-patient unit, peaceful gardens with outdoor seating and free but limited parking for visitors
• Quick access to the in-patient unit at the right point in the patient pathway
• Holistic care delivered by a multidisciplinary team, trained to meet the complex needs of patients and their families with a focus on open and sensitive communication
• A comprehensive rehabilitation service that attempts to maximise physical function and promote independence of patients
• A range of complementary therapies including massage and aromatherapy to promote a sense of well being and relaxation
• Chaplaincy support, family therapy, and bereavement support
• Care at the end of life in line with the Liverpool Care Pathway for the Dying Patient (see Links)
• An Admissions and Discharge Coordinator enabling patients to be admitted and discharged at the appropriate time to their preferred place of care
• Specialist advice, support and information for patients, carers and professional colleagues
