Out-Patients

On arrival at the out-patients department at the Priscilla Bacon Centre for Specialist Palliative Care, the patient and their family members are greeted by one of the Clinic Support Nurses and made comfortable in the waiting area. The nurses are able to offer support and information in a relaxed and informal setting.

An out-patient appointment allows patients with complex symptoms to be assessed, investigations to be arranged and treatment to be adjusted with the aim of improving the patient's quality of life. We believe that continuity of care is important to both patients and their family. We will try to ensure that the same clinician and nurse are available for each consultation.

Outpatient services / facilities include:

  • Full nursing assessments
  • Specialist in palliative medicine, pain management, Lymphoedema and wound care etc.
  • Time to be able to explore important issues
  • Access to information
  • Arrange investigations and explain results
  • Support for colleagues in primary and secondary care

Outpatients may be seen by a doctor, a specialist nurse, a physiotherapist or an occupational therapist or any combination of these specialists depending on the patients needs at that time.
